Din't come expecting Jiro's Sukiyabashi but certainly enjoyed their chu-toro, maguro and carlifornia rolls, Was surprised by the freshness too. Ambiance is lovely and had some great help from the staff, wish I could remember his name. Had to ask for mugicha almost as a special request as it's not in the beverage menu. Prices are slightly on the higher end but the quality almost makes me think it's worth it compared to other sushi bars in the city.Shouts to Mr. Shin too, friendly and regularly checks if the customers are enjoying their food.
Visited Tokyo for an early Teppanyaki dinner with my 2 children. We were half way through the endless Teppanyaki courses (I think 10 in total) when the management came over to our table and asked if I would be keen to taste their amazing Big Eye Tuna Akami & Blue Fin Tuna Toro. A little pricy, but definitely the best I have had in Kenya. My children also got to cook with the Teppanyaki chefs. Service was not perfect but with always with a smile and hence I would rate Tokyo just under 5 out of 5. Must Try!
The ambience in the restaurant is nice and people are friendly, but the food, if you want to get a taste of Tokyo, is a let down. I lived in the real Tokyo for 2.5 years, but the food served at Tokyo Restaurant was not even close to the finely prepared cuisine that you find there - I dont think the Koren (my guess) Chef has ever received training in preparing Japanese food ( I may be wrong, but that's what my ).
eyes and tastebuds were telling me after a few dishes!)
Although the Sushi and the food itself is not bad for what one would expect in Nairobi, if you are searching for a genuine taste of the real Tokyo or Japan, I'd recommend one goes to the Japanese-run restaurant down the street. On the other hand, the ambience of Tokyo Restaurant is commendable, and I would only wish that their quality and honsety-shall I put it- in food preparation could match the ambience.
I won a voucher to Tokyo from Yummy! The food especially the veg sushi boat was delicious. The mushrooms in a garlic sauce were yummy too. The server, however, would not seem to understand what we needed, but rather we would have to ask for everything, including menus. The terrace is beautiful and perfect for lunches. New fave sushi restaurant!
I had been to Tokyo Restaurant a while ago for cocktail/ happy hour but most recently, I was there for dinner. For someone who still hasn't acquired the taste for sushi, the snack box (I believe that's what it's called) provided the necessary reprieve. All in all, the service was great and I'd recommend the garden area of the restaurant to anyone who's going there for a dinner date.
