Chop House at Radisson BluRadisson Blu Hotel, Elgon Rd, UpperHill, Nairobi
Last night I went to the restaurant after reading the reviews I had hinted to my better half that I would like to go for dinner. We get there knowing we had made a reservation on the 8th of feb and we are told that its maybe the other restaurant. On looking in the booking book our name was there plus a kid. The lady goes ahead to insist it’s not our booking yet the number on the book was my finances, she goes on to argue with us saying that they cannot serve the menu we ordered and goes in to call another person. The gentleman comes and claims to have called earlier on in the afternoon to inform us that they could only serve valentines menu .He suggests we try and look at it as he escorts us to what was a tea table. He served drinks and said that someone will give us the meal menu. 30 minutes later we had no menu. A lady gave us the menu and left and an hour later no service .On a table next to us was a couple who came after us and got served before us. We got tired and asked for the bill, the young kind gentleman who helped us was shocked that we had not been served and later suggested that we do not pay the drinks we had. All in all this restaurant is the worst I have been to and I wonder how it would have been if that gentleman did not bother to help us, I bet terrible. I would never recommend it besides your staff being rude, your service is slow.
I went to Chop House last night and fell in love with the ambiance, to begin with. We jumped straight to the main meal and everyone in our group of 6 ordered the 21 aged steak... I got the yellow as corn chicken. They all LOVED their steaks which were served with spinach and ugali. The chicken was a little dry but got better towards the end. I got the salad which wasn't too bad. It had a tart dressing which was nice in the beginning but as I kept eating it the tartness got to me. They also served a small bowl of curry type dip... I have a sneaky suspicion it had some type of alcohol in it. It was nice, not too great, though. Overall the meal was alright. Maybe next time I can get the steak and have something better to say.
The service was incredible! We had Nasim serving us. She was super kind and made sure nobody's glass was ever empty. If there is one thing Radison and Chop House need to improve on is dealing with mosquitos. Those pesky little insects were all over. While we ate each one of us was bending down to itch their ankles. Maybe use the electric repellent that has no odor and is actually quite effective.
This was honestly the best dinner I have had in a while and it's sad that I didn't eat much because I was stuffed by the time the mains were served. They were generous with their portions. The ambience was great, music was good.
I started with the bloody sticky pork ribs, which I would really recommend. They were mid spiced, hot and sweet, which I understand is done during marination. Generally, very tasty. For the main dish I had the lamb chops, which were served with fries and garden salad. I had mine medium and they were juicy, tender and delicious. I had most of it packed though. The salad was fresh and very tasty as well. I loved it, especially considering I rarely have salad.
My dessert was simple, strawberry ice cream and sherbet. If I am to dine there again, I'd however probably try 'Our Very Own Favourite' sweet ginger cake with Kenyan chai ice cream.
I went to Chop House last night for dinner. I had heard great things about this restaurant from a colleague so I was given a heads up on what to try.
I started with the Bucket mussels and tried my friends' Bloody Sticky pork ribs. Both these starters were delicious. The Bucket mussels are steamed in Tusker and served with lemon focaccia. The focaccia was light and fluffy and the mussels had a nice tanginess to them. The Bloody Sticky pork ribs are the finger licking sweet ribs that we all know and love. The meat fell off the bone and I'd definitely recommend this starter as well as the Fired Melting Croquettes which I tried too.
Chop House mains have some seafood, burgers/sandwiches and different cuts of meat. I had the New York Striploin which was tender, well seasoned and I had it with a side of fries and grilled corn. The grilled corn was oddly sweet which I didn't enjoy as much as I would have butter, salt and pepper.
The desserts were good but not as impressive as the appetizers and mains. If you're going to have dessert, I'd suggest you try the 'Our Very Own Favourite' sweet ginger cake with Kenyan chai ice cream or the Ice Cream & Sherbert.
good service- very attentive staff. Very nice atmosphere with comfortable chairs and comfortable lighting and overall lovely finishings. i suspect the food and wine is pricy to wean out "unsavory types" but sadly it wasn't justifiable in terms of portion or taste. however i hear i should try the lamb chops before being too harsh.
