Oasis Restaurant (Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel)Southern Sun Hotel, Parklands Rd, Westlands, Nairobi
If ordering from the menu - poor food, very poor service (non engaged, less enthusiastic and sometimes rude staff) - not worth the money. Nice environment though.
I had a latte tasted that out while waiting out the traffic and the rain, it was awesome and frothy, i got my little moustache and they gave me cookies. I was happy, ooh and the ambience is really nice, and it's just as affordable as any cafe, and they give you 2 cookies, and the pool is super pretty, :)
Food was disgusting. Starters: tomato soup was full of tamarind and smelt like someone had thrown up in it, mango avocado and chicken salad was piled with mangoes only and had half a piece of chicken. Main: beef fillet was over cooked and blue cheese sauce had split but they decided to serve it any way, fish was bland and tarter sauce was just mayo, the lamb cutlets were not cutlets but pieces of fatty lamb chops, the mint sauce it was supposed to come with was actually boiled sugar syrup. All the vegetables were burnt beyond recognition and were drenched in oil. Dessert: the duet of mango and chocolate mousse was actually a cheese cake with no sign of mango and the orange cheesecake was completely frozen when it was brought to the table. Service: the most pathetic service we have ever seen, our menus were not taken away until we placed them on the ground and nobody even noticed, our orders were taken 35 mins after we sat down and that was only because one of us walked up to the barman. Because of the food we called for the manager but he never showed up and we had asked for him for about 3hrs! when we asked a lady called Margaret about it she made a face and sneered at us! She did send over a restaurant 'supervisor' who was un concerned about our plight and implied that we got sub standard food because we had ordered from the NRW menu!! The food was in ediable hence none of us eat more than a spoon. The 'supervisor' gave us a complimentary glass of wine which was brought in filthy dirty glasses, we could see the chewed up food stuck on the glass from the previous user! For the time we were there we noticed that foreigners were being treated quite. Perhaps the restaurant does not want to cater to locals. We can never go back to oasis and southern sun Mayfair for that matter even if we were being paid for it!! Shame on you for treating kenyans like 2nd class citizens!
The entire course was exemplary. Would definately go back
My Husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Oasis restaurant. There was a head waitress there to welcome us to our dinner table which was free sitting. the starters was nice and the main meal was a good portion esp after having taken starters. the waiter Isaiah was pleasant and knew the menu very well. Areas of improvement: there should be some soft music in the evening to make the ambience even better, not hearing just the clicking of plates and cutlery; the soft drinks are tooo expensive esp the beeer and the juices.
