Misono Japanese RestaurantGround Floor, The Green House, Ngong Rd, Nairobi
I would recommend this to anyone for the experience. I was here for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend and it's the kind of place I would recommend for a special night. We had the Teppanyaki dinner, which was so much fun. It was my first time having Teppanyaki and I loved the "production" that goes into it. It was very interesting watching the chef work his magic. He was pleasant and interactive, and readily answered any questions I had. The food was really tasty, and surprisingly quite filling. I was also impressed by the wait staff who were quick and attentive. All in all it was a wonderful evening and I would definitely go back.
The venerable Misono is still a good choice for tasty Japanese food, despite having to move locations a few years back from a spacious, airy place to a small 2-floor dinning room. Nevertheless, the quality of the food remains high as is the service - in fact, the ever professional maitre d' seems to have been with the restaurant forever, which is a nice sign.
My experience with the service was good and more so because the waiting staff that we had was able to give a recommendation and also answer my questions on what was in some sauces and dishes. I did the Teppanyaki and we had a great chef who was friendly and interactive and I enjoyed the experience. The food was fresh but I felt that the Octopus and squid was rather bland but next time will try the a la carte it looked like a better option. I would definitely go back.
I must say good value for whats on offer. I sat with some friends at the grill and had a variety from the calamari, chicken and beef bits.. the variety in the choices were quite good for my friends who are not big on seafood.. the ambiance and the whole experience was absolutely lovely. I would recommend this restaurant to sea food, sushi and novice sea food eaters.. enough food choices to share around the table!
Went for dinner with my wife. At first, we seated at one of the grills and left to wait for almost 15 minutes before a waiter attended us and moved us to another grill with a chef. It took another 5 minutes before he came to take our drinks order, without a menu. Only 3 brands of beer were available, of which i drank none, so I stuck with a soft drink.
While the food was well prepared, some of it was done rather haphazardly. The sashimi slices were cut in thick slices. The waiting stuff were nowhere to be seen and hardly attended to us. My wife asked for another drink and I asked for some still water. The water never arrived.
While waiting to have our dessert, one of the managers asked if they could move us to a table upstairs so they could sit another group at the grill. We told them we had been moved before, and besides, we just wanted to finish our meal and leave. Hardly 5 minutes had passed, and still no dessert when another manager came and asked to move us. We then just asked for the bill, paid and left. Average food and shoddy service prevented me from leaving any tip at all. Suffice to say, I shall never be returning there again.
