Hemingways Brasserie

Mbagathi Ridge, Off Marula Lane, Karen, Nairobi

Restaurant Information

Hemingways’ Brasserie serves European classics with a modern twist focusing on simply cooked free-range products sourced directly from Kenyan farms. The feature of the Brasserie is the Josper oven - this indoor barbecue is the first of its kind in Kenya, specially imported by Hemingways to produce the best steaks sizzling at 800F. The special blend of charcoal used to fire this beast creates a distinct char-grilled flavour to the meat. The beef from Mordendat Ranch, Naivasha is grain fed for 180 days especially for Hemingways, and hung for 21 days. As well as the best steaks, the Brasserie is also famous for other dishes such as braised beef rib, slow cooked pork belly or for seafood lovers the Ruby Snapper a la plancha or Spicy Calamari with pomegranate and pearl barley. Their menu also features forgotten favourites such as lobster, prawn or crab cocktails. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of this cosmopolitan, Wolseley-style cafe. Desserts include the old favourites — ile flottante (floating island) and classic creme brûlée as well as the finest cheesecake anywhere.

Straight from the minute you call for a reservation, to the sight at the entrance, everything was beautiful. The food is delicious but more so the ambiance!!!! When we went for dinner they had the biggest bouquet of my favorite flowers! I was smiling through my dinner!

Absolutely LOVED this place!! The food was amazing and freshly prepared. Great portion sizes too. and was worth the wait. Our waiters were very professional and friendly. The ambiance, WOOW! I did not want to leave. Absolutely worth every penny. Great for Sunday afternoon with family and friends.

BEST HOTEL IN NAIROBI. I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE. Words are not enough to describe my beautiful experience. I was awe-struck. Private, peaceful, serene and tranquil environment. The food quality was to die for. The service was impeccable. Young, energetic, beautiful, clean, well-groomed waiters! I had such a good time. We were even taken on a tour of the enitre hotel. I felt like a queen. It was the best birthday surprise ever! Thank you, Steve from Hemmingways.

It has a very nice romantic ambience. Nice place to relax and have a drink.

The ambiance is fantastic, the service is fast and efficient. My only drawback to the place is the food. For the price, it did not deliver. The food was at best average. I would go back again, just for the ambiance.

the place is lovely. Very homely with nice ambience. Perfect place to just get away. The service was excellent. Very attentive, well trained, knowledgeable about the menu with excellent suggestions. Overall great experience. But the parking can do with a little more lighting.

The service level was good and the staff are well trained

We were only two times in this restaurant, Both times the bill included items which we did not have and we had to intervene, Last time, the bill was inflated by 30%. Not even an apology was received by the restaurant personnel. After repeated experience like that, we believe that it was on purpose, which is not acceptable.

I made a reservation for lunch on 21st morning and the confirmation was communicated to us.We were requested for preference of sitting area which was confirmed too.We were booked to sit outside by the patio. However when we got there, there was no one to meet us and we had to stand for 5mins looking out for someone to show us where to sit.Never mind eventually a waiter came and informed us that the seating area on the patio was full and showed us to an alternative table to sit on the inside. Our orders were finally taken and it took very long for the food to arrive. It was substandard, half cooked peas in a sauce of tasteless fish, uncooked potatoes. It was a big disappointment. Having stayed at the other Hemingways hotels we were looking forward to a wonderful experience but it was not worth it.After all this the manager told us there was some confusion in the kitchen as the great turnout of guests was not anticipated. .This really defeats the purpose of making a reservation..
