GinzaGalana Plaza, Kilimani, Nairobi
I went for a simple dinner this week with my husband and we really enjoyed ourselves. The service was great, though the order took long to come, our waiter kept checking up on us. The food was delicious and their egg fried rice is great. Also, the fruit after the meal was quite nice. The place is also good for a group or a quiet meal, whichever you pick.
The teppanyaki is really good but not pocket friendly. Ordering from their menu...lets just say the pictures are more appealing than the actual food. The sushi is okay and very affordable. The wine prices aren't too bad ether.
Ginza was a great discovery when on a whim I went there on a Saturday afternoon. The place wasn't crowded at all, and the furnishing and interior decor was quite tasteful - it's a mix of colours and textures that only serve to excite not just the mood but also the palette. The waiters are absolutely efficient and welcoming and everything is well coordinated. The meal I had was the chicken and cashew nuts, beef and greens and the vegetable stew, and at the table was sizzling chicken. I also sampled the sushi on offer and it was all delectable and tasty.
The hostess was very pleasant. The waiter not so much (a bit aloof). Went on a Thursday, where they have a teppanyaki buffet (Tues & Thur). The pricing on items on the menu is surprisingly affordable, cheapest iv seen around. The teppanyaki chef upstairs was awesome. He had us laughing all night, interacting with the party sitting next to us and even had us go and prepare some items on the stove (how awesome). The buffet is a great deal though there was only beef, chicken and prawn for the meats. The banana (in panko) and ice-cream dessert offered with the buffet is out of this world-a must try. Their sushi is however very bland and boring. Will definitely not be ordering that off their menu. They should also consider changing the lighting from white(clinical) lighting to yellow lights to change up the ambiance its not inviting at all. And they have a buffet on Sunday that features teppanyaki, sushi, sashimi and everything else so shall definitely be trying that soon. overall great experience value for money shall be back. Buffet for under 2,000 definitely a great deal.
Great prices, wonderful portions and really tasty stir-fry rice, gyoza and skewers, sadly not so great sushi. Basically better Chinese food than Japanese food, bit ironic for a place called Ginza.
