Eastern Garden Chinese RestaurantLiza Apartments, Rhapta Rd, Westlands, Nairobi
Had a terrible experience here, food was mediocre but the nightmare came during dessert, date pankcake was served wrapped in a piece of fried plastic, to our horror, the manager refused to come out and offer an explanation until we insisted, then a mere sorry was deemed to be enough. It was just so sad they didn't care, will never be returning.
Very convenient location for us so it's an alright place to eat. But the food is full of vegetables and barely any meat. The staff take forever to come to your service bit once they do they are good. Would recommend if a fan of Chinese food
Although the food is not bad and quite fairly priced, their service is sorely lacking. For starters we had the hot and sour soup with chicken which was lovely, and we also ordered the spicy crispy pork. Unfortunately the pork was extremely bland and tasted of nothing at all - therefore naturally we sent it back to the kitchen and the waiters said they would tell the chef - which was fine with us. Next thing we knew, George, the chef and owner came out of the kitchen and stood in the middle of the restaurant and started ranting about how we could not send the food back and he would charge us anyway regardless - in front of all his other customers! This is absolutely unacceptable. We were absolutely prepared to walk out without paying for anything at all. It just goes to show how customer service in Nairobi is pathetic. The main course was all good but our whole experience was totally ruined by that and I don't think we'll be going back to Eastern Garden any time soon.
The service was very fast and efficient. However i found the food to be quite oily and bland but the portions are quite okay. I found it quite interesting how the prices on the menu don't include taxes and so when the bill comes you need to ask for clarification as it's not indicated on the menu. The owner/chef is also quite arrogant to his waiting staff and that scene is not very pleasant to watch. There are definitely better Chinese restaurants some that are even cheaper..
Definitely one of the best chinese restaurants I've been to in Kenya. The sweet and sour pork in particular is to die for!Haven't been disappointed so far. Keep it up!The only complaint I have is that the owner doesn't seem keen on checking up on his guests despite being in the dining area quite a lot.
