The ambiance is lovely for sure. We sat at the front porch... Love the bread appetizers. I like trying different things in menus, which is what made me get the Kavari (or a word close to this). It's basically tilapia fillets deep fried in batter made from gram flour and served in coconut sauce. Sound interesting to try. I wouldn't underestimate the word 'sauce' next time. The meal was quite heavy and the fillets were in a plate full of coconut curry. Plus for sure! Taste wise I had higher expectations. The textures weren't what I expected. The fish tasted mush and this with too much curry made it a little more mushier for my liking. The gram flour had not set well on the fish. I feel a little more crunch to the fillet, less portion of curry and less sugar should do the trick. Otherwise taste was good.
The service was A+.
My friends got the beef fillet and absolutely loved it!! I have something to go back for :)
This has to be the best of my experiences in Nairobi Restaurant Week. I had the Oriental Style Chicken Salad. Nothing prepared me for the awesomeness that was this starter - it was so delish!! For the main I had the slow cooked lamb leg. It was okay. Part of this problem is that when the starter is so good, the main needs to be excellent. But it tasted really good. Had the fresh fruit with lemon sorbet. This was awesome, best dessert this week. On the service, it was average. There was a lot of time between meals but I've begun appreciating this time because it allows the food to settle and allow for conversation in between meals (we were a large group). The ambience was good but the one major problem in had with Artisan is that their servers have zero capability to handle large groups of diners. They were slow and looked confused. You can imagine the nightmare that happened with the billing and the confusion of the servers, trying to add up. IT was a total mess, we ended up having to stay for about 30 more minutes sorting this out. Additionally, it is really ridiculous that there isn't validated parking. I've spent money on a meal and then I pay for parking in your premises. This is a joke!!!
Being the foodie that I am, I did not want 2016 to descend on me without sampling Artisan's food. The ambiance was very calming and breathtaking all in one sitting. My colleague and I waltzed in and immediately, someone came to usher us to our respective seats. The attendant was very quick, friendly and collected. We made our orders and they were brought in in no time, the wine though a bit too pricey did an exotic dance with my pallets and the salmon was made just right and in the perfect portion. If you want to have a relaxed beautiful afternoon, this is the place to be, plus the view is not too bad!!
