Caribou RestaurantNyali plaza, ground floor, Nyali, Mombasa
When I lived in Mombasa, Caribou was one of the places that offered good food and good value. I was in Mombasa in April and decided to go for a throwback! Not too impressed. Word has it that administration has either changed or they haven't been too active. Who knows. They certainly should work on their food to bring back the old glory of the place. One thing that often puts me off in any non-veg food is if the meat has a funky smell to it... especially mutton.
They have good juices.. average food, however the Chef must have a very sweet tooth. I have had to dilute mine with water to tone down the sugar. Best meat pies in Mombasa.
I go to Caribou restaurant for two reasons : 1) They're open until 2 am in the morning 2) The caribou special burger
The burger is humongous, it's what you eat if you've fasted for a month, this burger is scrumptious.
Now let's face reality ;
The service is simply awful, it takes very long for your food to arrive and when it does you often have to wait a while longer for the accompaniments.
The desert is stale most of the time, they could use fresher products. The hookah they serve is below par compared to their competitors. The ambience is enjoyable but they should think of introducing a live band on weekends.
This restaurant has yet to tap into its potential & there's room for a lot of improvements.
